Job Description

Tackle a fascinating recruitment challenge that will benefit thousands of people.

At the University of Southampton, we are focused on delivering excellence. From the students who are enhancing their futures with us through to our forward-thinking staff who work together to create a team-spirited environment, we are proud to promote a dynamic approach in all that we do.

This is particularly true of our Estates and Facilities team who oversee the running and maintenance of our campuses. This dynamic department handles everything from capital projects, estate planning and engineering, through to campus operations such as cleaning, plumbing, security and catering. The University is a really great place to work, but we are currently faced by a complex recruitment challenge. At this moment in time, in this competitive recruitment market we have a number of vacancies that we are finding challenging to fill, and that’s where we need your help.

We’re looking for someone who can determine why we are not able to fill these roles, and to come up with innovative solutions to this problem. You will have a great deal of autonomy as you assess key factors such as the attraction materials and media channels that we are currently using, the agility and usability of our application and recruitment processes, and how we sell the generous packages that are on offer. Working in partnership with hiring managers, recruitment agencies, the HR Business Partners (HRBP) and the specialist recruitment and talent team, you will identify the measures we need to take to fill these vacancies, and you will help us shape a better approach to recruitment in the department going forward. You will also be a trusted ally to all our hiring managers, developing their current recruitment capabilities, and constructively challenging where you see areas that could be enhanced.

From making suggestions on social media approaches for specialist appointments through to arranging advertising that is consistent in employee branding, this is a stimulating role – so if you are looking for a unique project to sink your teeth into, then you will thrive in our friendly team. With a comprehensive knowledge of HR policies and procedures, and a good awareness of recruitment best practise you will have a background in analysing data and presenting summaries of your findings. Coming from either an HR or a recruitment background, we would value a forward-thinking approach. You will be capable of planning and delivering recruitment projects over a period of several weeks or months. Crucially you will have fantastic verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to solve the complex recruitment problems we face in this current recruitment climate.

In turn, we can offer a deeply fascinating challenge, with the scope to network extensively and enrich your area of expertise. We can be very flexible on the hours that you are working, and we are offering a generous benefits package.

If you’d like to know more about the department that you will be recruiting for, you can find plenty of information here .

This role is offered on a part time basis of 28 hours per week and for a fixed term contract of 6 months.

Please note that upon appointment the job title will be Senior Administrator.
