Job Description

Our team at the Lifeways Group based in Long Melford are to currently recruiting full, part time and causal Support Workers to work with our great team in our Barleycombe residential service.

At Barleycombe, we support men who live with a range of needs including, Autism, learning disabilities, Down’s syndrome and other complex needs. We have a strong structure and routine here, something which is really important to the people we support.

In order to encourage and support our service users we are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Individuals to work in our services to all support aspects of their daily lives.

We don’t require experience as full training is provided but we are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals who want to make a difference to the lives of the people we support, skills needed include:

Customer service skills, a willingness to learn, understanding of the needs of others, patience and most importantly you must want to assist the people we support by enabling them to live as independently as possible.

Barleycome is ten-bedroomed detached house with a kitchen, a large living room, a dining room, a quiet room for arts and crafts or quiet time, a laundry room, two wet room-style bathrooms and five bathrooms with a toilet and sink. One of the bedrooms has a wet room-style ensuite.

There is a self-contained apartment attached to the property, which has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Barleycombe also has a large accessible garden with a patio and a BBQ for people to enjoy when the weather is good.

As a support worker you be expected to support our service users with general household chores such as cooking and laundry and housework such as hoovering and dusting. Please note that assisting with personal care such as bathing, toileting and feeding are part of the job role.

No two days are the same in this role, you will have the opportunity to assist someone else broaden their horizons and experiences whilst doing the same for you.

  • Full time 42 hours per week
  • Part-time 14 – 30 hours per week
  • Sessional/Bank hours also available

Working hours are on a shift pattern rota basis including some weekend working and some sleep-ins (sleep-ins are paid as a separate payment per sleep in):

Mandatory vaccines in care homes have now been approved and will become a requirement from 11 th November 2021. Applicants who have not had either vaccine will need to have their 1 st one by 16 th September in order to be fully vaccinated by the required date of the 11 th November to be considered for this position. If successful, applicants will need to evidence their COVID-19 vaccinations as part of our compliance process.
